Biography
Kyle D. Hardacker, MD is an Orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine and trauma surgery. He provides comprehensive care for adult and pediatric spinal conditions, with expertise in degenerative spine disease, spinal deformity and complex spinal disorders. He treats conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal fractures, spinal tumors and other complex conditions of the spine. He also provides orthopedic trauma care for a variety of complex fractures and traumatic musculoskeletal injuries.
Dr. Hardacker’s surgical expertise includes minimally invasive spine surgery, cervical and lumbar decompression and fusion, cervical and lumbar disc replacement, complex spinal reconstruction, and adult and pediatric spinal deformity correction. He utilizes minimally invasive techniques, tubular discectomy, motion preservation and image-guided stereotactic spinal navigation when appropriate for his patients.
Dr. Hardacker earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
He then went on to complete his Orthopedic surgery residency at Brown University Warren Alpert School of Medicine, where he stayed to complete a fellowship in adult and pediatric orthopedic trauma. He continued on to complete a fellowship in spine surgery at the world-renowned Norton Leatherman Spine Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in Orthopedic and spine journals, including The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery and The Spine Journal, and has contributed to multiple book chapters. His research has been presented at national and international meetings, including the Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting.
Dr. Hardacker believes in an individualized approach to spine care, beginning with nonoperative treatment whenever appropriate and considering surgery when it offers the best opportunity to relieve pain, restore function and help patients return to the activities that are important to them. He values continuity and long-term relationships with his patients and strives to guide them through every stage of their care, from the initial evaluation and treatment decision-making through surgery, recovery and long-term follow-up. His broad training allows him to treat a wide range of spinal conditions, from common problems such as herniated discs and spinal stenosis to complex spinal deformities, revision surgery, and reconstructive procedures.
Dr. Hardacker’s interest in orthopedic surgery began with his experience as a three-sport athlete growing up, playing baseball, basketball and football before continuing to play baseball at the collegiate level. His interest in musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology and biomechanics eventually led him to spine surgery, where he was drawn to the complexity of spinal anatomy and the opportunity to combine problem-solving and technical precision with meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.
Originally born in Buffalo, New York, Dr. Hardacker grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and later lived in Providence, Rhode Island, during his orthopedic surgery residency and trauma fellowship before completing his spine fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky.
