Biography
Dr. Eric Yoon is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. His clinical interests include ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, multiligament knee injuries, rotator cuff repair, complex shoulder instability, hip arthroscopy, shoulder/hip/knee replacement, and fracture care. He has advanced training in arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle.
Dr. Yoon takes a patient-centered approach, believing surgery should be considered when it is the best option or when non-operative treatments have been exhausted or unsuccessful. He strives to be a “family orthopedist” by listening to each patient, understanding their goals and lifestyle, and helping them make informed decisions about their care. His purpose is to help patients return to the activities they enjoy and to improve their quality of life.
A former competitive athlete, Dr. Yoon understands the physical and emotional impact of orthopedic injuries firsthand. He played varsity ice hockey at Bowdoin College as a member of two NESCAC championship teams and has personally undergone multiple orthopedic procedures due to athletic injuries. These experiences inspired his commitment to helping patients recover and return to the activities they love.
Dr. Yoon graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College with a degree in Classics and Biochemistry and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College, a Level I trauma center, followed by fellowship training in Sports Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. During fellowship, he served as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets and as team physician for a state championship winning high school football and hockey program.
Dr. Yoon has been involved in orthopedic research throughout his education and training, contributing to peer-reviewed publications and presentations. He was also awarded a Fulbright research grant to study gastrointestinal cancers in Seoul, Korea after college. Dr. Yoon is excited to serve patients throughout McDonough and Locust Grove. He believes in building his practice around availability, accountability, and thoughtful, individualized care.
