Biography
J. Hunter Matthews, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement. He provides comprehensive care for patients with degenerative hip and knee conditions, post-traumatic arthritis, avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, prosthetic joint complications, and orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Matthews is committed to helping patients regain mobility, relieve pain, and return to the activities they enjoy most.
Dr. Matthews earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in adult reconstruction at Emory University School of Medicine, where he developed expertise in complex hip and knee replacement surgery. His clinical interests include robotic-assisted total joint replacement, muscle-sparing direct anterior hip replacement, partial knee replacement, revision joint replacement, and outpatient joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Matthews believes that the best outcomes result from building meaningful relationships with patients, listening carefully to their concerns, and creating individualized treatment plans that align with each patient's goals and lifestyle. Whether treatment involves conservative management or surgery, he is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care every step of the way.
