Health Tip: Treating Tonsillitis

(HealthDay News) -- Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, with symptoms that can resemble the flu, says the National Health Service.

Though symptoms will typically go away after three to four days, there are things you can do to ease symptoms.

To treat tonsillitis at home, the agency suggests:

  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Enjoy cool drinks to soothe the throat.
  • Take pain medicine.
  • Gargle with warm salt water.
